I am still deciding on what kind of blog this is going to be but I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and hope you enjoy visiting.
My name is Joanne Rapa and I have been traipsing through life with my animal menagerie, Gracie, Ella and Vivienne, mostly in Sydney, Australia and more recently in Mullumbimby and Byron Bay.
I am starting this blog to share my passion for all things textile. I love clothing and fabrics and have been influenced by clothing and costume throughout history, in film and theatre and culturally for most of my life.
My mother and her family have a long tradition of making lace by hand on the small island of Gozo which is part of Malta, as did many women from those islands and thankfully some still do. She also learnt to spin wool, weave fabric and design and make clothes for her 5 daughters. So I guess she was my first influence in the world of fashion.
She taught me to sew and make patterns from an early age and I have used those skills for most of my life... thanks ma.
